Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 9, 2026
Tabby (“we,” “us”) helps a group split a restaurant bill. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We’ve tried to write it in plain language. If anything is unclear, email us at benn@boxfortcommerce.com.
What we collect
- Receipt photos. When you start a bill, you upload a photo of the receipt. We send it to our AI provider to read the line items, then store the reading (items, prices, tax, tip, and the venue details printed on the receipt).
- Names. The first name each person enters so the table knows who claimed what.
- Phone numbers (optional). If you choose to save a bill to your phone, we store your mobile number so you can return to that bill from any device. This is never required to join a bill or to pay.
- Bill activity. Which items each person claims, amounts owed, and whether someone has marked themselves paid.
- Payment handles. The host’s Venmo or Cash App username, so guests get a pre-filled payment link.
What we do not collect
We do not process payments and we never see or store your card, bank, or payment-app login. Paying happens entirely inside Venmo, Cash App, or in person. We do not run advertising trackers.
How we use it
- To run the bill: read the receipt, show who owes what, and create payment links.
- To let you return to a bill you saved (that’s what your phone number is for), and to keep you signed in on your device.
- To understand how Tabby is used and improve it, including looking at venues and activity in aggregate.
We do not sell your personal information. If we ever add text-message features, we will ask for your clear permission first.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run Tabby:
- OpenAI reads your receipt photo into line items.
- Twilio sends the verification code when you save a bill by phone.
- Supabase and Railway store the data and host the app.
They process this information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
Cookies
We use a single sign-in cookie to remember you on your device after you verify your phone, and your browser’s local storage to remember which person you are on a bill. We don’t use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep bill and account data while it’s useful for the service. You can ask us to delete your information at any time by emailing benn@boxfortcommerce.com, and we’ll remove it.
Your choices
Giving a phone number is always optional. Depending on where you live (for example, California), you may have rights to access or delete the personal information we hold about you. To exercise them, email us at the address above.
Children
Tabby isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we’ll update the date above and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.
